Growing up, Phillip-Michael Scales didn't understand what it meant that his aunt's close friend, the guitar player who called him "Nephew" and he called "Uncle B," was B.B. King. Once Phillip-Michael began guitar less, the significance became so clear that he shied away from soloing and most things blues. Instead, he fell in love with songwriting when an English teacher told him "A great writer can make their reader identify with anyone." The trouble was he couldn't find his story in the blues.

With a fierce independent streak and a passion for performing, Scales fronted his own indie bands, wrote and recorded his own music, and worked to make a name for himself on his own terms. All the while, his "Uncle B" just smiled a knowing smile and encouraged him to "stay with it." Their relationship grew closer as Scales began to discover "the blues" in his personal and professional life.

When his Uncle B passed away, Scales began incorporating more of the blues into his music as a way to honor him. "These days I'm finding more of my story in the blues. A lot has led me here between politics, my identity, and the idea of Legacy." The result is a sound he calls "Dive Bar Soul" which takes a bit of indie rock storytelling and couples it with the passion of the blues.

His single "Find a Way" attracted national radio attention in 2022 and garnered an invite to perform on the Ellen Degeneres Show. His music has taken him all the way to the Middle East, as well as festivals across Europe and North America. He has opened for Milky Chance, Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains), Caravan Palace, Fantastic Negrito, The New Respects, Anderson East, Guster, The Record Company, and Cory Brannan.

This lady-led bluegrass group from Chicago has been winning hearts with their beautiful harmonies, original songwriting, and entertaining stage presence since forming in November of 2016. They have performed at events such as IBMA award-winning Frankfort Bluegrass Festival, the John Hartford Memorial Festival, East Troy Bluegrass Festival, Ladies of Bluegrass Festival, the Illinois State Fair, Wander Down Music Fest, Merchant Street Music Festival, American Music Fest, and many more!
They have also performed on the WGN Radio and WGN TV Shows, and at notable venues in Chicago such as City Winery, The Park West, and Navy Pier. These Foxes are on the run and coming to a town near you!

The Rhythm Rockets have been performing on stages across the country and throughout the Midwest. Steeped in post war Jazz, Rhythm & Blues from the 1940s and 1950s, the band brings an authentic representation of the genre. Chicago Jazz Magazine's Randy Freedman noted, "The RR's possessed two distinct advantages over many of their now-defunct musical contemporaries that helped ensure their survival and growth into the present day: the band's wise placement of emphasis on musicianship over gimmickry, and the invaluable look and sound of lead vocalist Nicole Kestler. Few other female artists today combine the necessary daring, confidence and originality (not to mention the pipes) to follow big-voiced legends like Ruth Brown and Mabel (Big Maybelle) Smith, or Peggy Lee's sultry purr."

The Rhythm Rockets have come a long way since they played their first gig at a nightclub in Chicago’s Western suburbs on New Year’s Eve of 1996. Over the last two decades, they’ve steadily emerged as one of the city’s top Swing, Rhythm & Blues combos, incorporating a measure of jazz into their elegant presentation as well.

Formed at the height of the neo-swing craze, the jump-and-jive influences of Louis Jordan and Louis Prima were once a primary part of their approach. But along the way, they’ve tapped into the horn-driven postwar jump blues sound so securely and with such irresistible gusto that they’ve entirely transcended a short-lived trend once defined by Brylcreem and Zoot suits. Whether you enjoy cutting a rug on the dance floor or simply sitting back and grooving to their swinging musical attack, this outfit always delivers the goods, respecting the idiom without rendering it a museum piece as too many of their one-time peers did.

Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Katy Guillen & The Drive is the independent roots-rock project of Katy Guillen and Stephanie Williams. Produced by Kevin Ratterman, the band’s 2022 debut album “Another One Gained” was met with critical praise, with Uncut Magazine noting that they “hit the sweet spot with a mix of spiky garage rock and soulful country torch songs.” Under The Radar Magazine lauded, “Guillen and Williams bring forth a simple and timeless indie rock sound carried by Guillen’s chugging guitar and Williams’ driving drums, yet they also show off effortless instrumental chemistry, locking into an easygoing groove that gives both members a chance to shine.” 2023 saw them playing club dates and festivals including Mile of Music, Boulevardia, and Treeline in support of their summer release of a Deluxe edition of the album. “Another One Gained Deluxe” features three previously unreleased songs, including ‘Batallas,’ the highly anticipated remixed Spanish version of the bands’ fan-favorite ‘Battles’, featuring Latin-Grammy winner Mireya Ramos. Their live performance is characterized by their magnetic and seamless bond and their passion for technical mastery and song. The band will record their next album and continue touring the country throughout 2024.

The Lawrence Peters Outfit play un-ruined country music, a term Lawrence coined to describe the band’s original, deep-rooted, honky tonk sound. They were 2019 and 2018 Ameripolitan Award nominees, in the Best Honky Tonk Group category, and two time winners of the “Best Country And Western Entertainer” (Chicago Music Awards).

Best known for his lead vocal on "The Old Black Hen", for the watershed Songs: Ohia- Magnolia Electric Company album, Peters leads the "Outfit" through his own finely crafted originals, and cherry-picked classics. The band is a super-group of Chi-Town pickers, including Matt Gandurski on lead guitar, John Huber on rhythm guitar, and Josh Piet on upright bass.

He is an enthusiastic collector and curator of country records, many of which he spins on his radio show "Country, My Way", on Chicago's WLPN 105.5 FM, every Wednesday from 4 to 6pm, and at The Sportsman's Club, the first Wednesday of every month.

Altered Five smokes, smolders and burns like a swig of good whiskey. The hip Milwaukee quintet is known for its strong brew of tough, original blues and hard-hitting live shows. Blues Blast raves that barrel-chested front man Jeff Taylor possesses a “smooth, warm-toned voice as monumental and undeniable as Howlin’ Wolf with the finish and flourish of B.B. King.” Downbeat declares stealth guitarist Jeff Schroedl “reaches the high bar of mixed invention and fluidity.” Fueled by a rhythm section laying down the deepest grooves this side of the MGs, the five blues blasters hit the ground running 22 years ago and show no sign of easing up. Their seventh studio recording, Testifyin', is set to be released on Blind Pig Records March 22, 2024.

The Chris Greene Quartet has been a highly visible part of Chicago’s jazz scene since 2005, and has maintained a stable lineup from the beginning, with the exception of Steve Corley, who has held the drum chair since 2011. Damian Espinosa on piano and keyboards and Marc Piane on acoustic and electric basses have been onboard since the beginning. Unique among Chicago bands, most of whom feature, by necessity, constantly shifting personnel, the CGQ has been able to develop a true group sound and feel, harking back to bands from the classic age of jazz when groups could stay together for long periods of time. While honoring the tradition, the CGQ incorporates elements of funk, hip-hop, rock, pop, the blues and reggae, reflecting their diverse backgrounds.

CGQ’s most recent record - “PlaySPACE 2 - Play Harder” recently received a 4 1/2 star rating from DownBeat Magazine. The band was also recently honored at the 2018 Chicago Music Awards with an award for “Best Jazz Entertainer” and recently won the “Best Jazz Band” category in the Chicago Reader “Best of Chicago” Poll.

American recording artist, Zach Person, is the new face of indie rock. Wielding his electric guitar, Person plays loud, raw, and connects with his music fans on a primal level sonically. His brand new sophmore album entitled, "Let's Get Loud", (Released March 01) showcases the songwriter's ability to produce a variety of both high energy rock anthems and head-bobbing funk rhythms. Produced by Nashiville based rocker, Tyler Bryant, Person describes the album as an audio diary of his mid-twenties, bestowing it the title, "Let's Get Loud", as a nod to his musical mantra.

Zach commences his "Let's Get Loud '24 North American Spring Tour" on April 14 and will tour Europe / UK in June of 2024. Stay tuned as Zach will be releasing new music throughout the course of the year.

Jackie Venson is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter known far and wide for her beautifully complex music and blazing guitar skills. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Jackie has traveled the world playing to crowds both as a headliner and as support for major acts such as Keb' Mo', Gary Clark Jr, Aloe Blacc, Melissa Etheridge, and Citizen Cope, to name a few. In 2020, Jackie released her studio album Vintage Machine, her first studio follow up to 2019's Joy. Music from Vintage Machine was featured heavily on Jackie's taping for Austin City Limits' 46th season, and she released the full set on "Live at Austin City Limits" that year. In 2021, she released Love Transcends, her first studio album centered around the blues and at the start of 2023 she released Evolution of Joy, a reimagining of her breakout album Joy, with producer Frenchie Smith (Jet, Toadies, Wild Child.) With the uncertainty of the times we're living in, one thing holds true for Jackie Venson-she's going to play her music, speak her truth, and spread as much joy as she can doing it.

Saxophonist Jarod Bufe has been active in the realms of woodwind repair and music performance since moving to Chicago in 1996. Soon after arriving, he established himself as one of the first-call saxophone repairmen in the area, while performing primarily as a section player in local big bands. In the early 2010s, his affiliation with the musician-curated Ratchet Series at the Skylark in Pilsen reinvigorated his longtime interest in original composition and improvisation in small group contexts.

Today, Jarod maintains an active repair practice—counting many of Chicago's finest professional musicians and music educators among his loyal clientele—while regularly performing his original music with his quartet and trio at such area venues as FitzGerald's, the Whistler, and Elastic Arts.

The Chicago Skyliners Big Band was formed in 1988 for the sole purpose of prolonging the musical memory of the Big Band Era.

Members of the band in the early days were informed that this was not a major money making proposition, only a mission to keep Big Bands alive.

A house band at FitzGeralds Night Club in Berwyn since 1991, The Chicago Skyliners Big Band following has grown to become one of the top Big Bands in Chicagoland.

Blue Birdland Jazz recording artists, besides original material, the Band features the music of Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Sammy Nestico, Stan Kenton, and Maynard Ferguson to name a few.

Not your father’s big band music, the Chicago Skyliners feature contemporary arrangements of traditional big band hits. The Chicago Tribune stated, “This group consistently found the ideal tempo, style and phrasing for the scores they played.” Jazziz Magazine said, “The band has a surplus of exceptional soloists coupled with high powered ensemble playing.” Enjoy the big band swing sounds, America’s greatest contribution to world music history.

Steeped in the Soul Jazz and Funk traditions of Grant Green, Jimmy Smith, Earl Van Dyke, and Booker T & The MG’s; The Heavy Sounds testament to instrumental soul music from the 60’s and early 70’s has quite literally created a band that can say everything while saying nothing.

The Heavy Sounds are Ryan Juravic (drums), John W Lauler (bass), John Wills (Guitar), Alexander Kerwin (Alto Sax) and Pete Benson (Organ). What’s amazing about these cats is that their level of expertise in the instrumental setting is equaled and heightened by their work backing up legendary soul shouters from all over Chicago. This band has had the honor of backing up singers like Otis Clay, Syl Johnson, Renaldo Domino, Gina Bloom, Michael Avery, JC Brooks and others. Their extensive work as session musicians and backing bands has morphed this soul outfit into Chicago’s modern equivalent to the Funk Brothers.

Rachel Drew is a singer-songwriter from Chicago. She grew up in a musical family and is known for her voice and her catchy, self-penned tunes that blend blues, country, pop, folk, and retro soul. "Old Sky New" is her newest album, recorded with Blaise Barton at Grammy-winning Joyride Studios. It features John Szymanski, Alton Smith, Cathie Van Wert Menard, Michael Krayniak, Jason Batchko, and Chloe F. Orwell. Alan Harrison of The Rocking Magpie writes, “There’s something of a hint of Dusty in Memphis, minus the strings here; as Rachel actually has a similar breathy and pearlescent voice that reels you in, and before you know it you’re sitting totally engrossed in the offering coming out of the speakers... the arrangements are pure Laurel Canyon at its height when Linda Ronstadt and Mama Cass could do no wrong.”

Gerald Dowd has been described as “the hardest working drummer in Chicago” (Richard Milne, WXRT), playing on over 100 albums, and averaging 150 live dates a year around the world. In recent years, he's been releasing solo albums of original material, starting with his 2012 release, Kingsize EP. In 2014, he was the recipient of an IAP arts grant from Chicago's Dept. Of Cultural Affairs/Special Events (DCASE), which led to his first full-length solo album, Home Now, produced by Grammy-nominated producer Liam Davis, and featuring, among others, Chicago legends Robbie Fulks and Nora O'Connor. To celebrate the release, he held a benefit concert (DAY OF THE DOWD) at which he played for 13 hours straight with 16 different bands, raising over $10,000 for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Naturally, Mud, the eldest son of legendary bluesman “Muddy Waters”, was drawn to music at an early age. He learned to make the best of his famous father’s hectic touring schedule, seeing Muddy only during brief respites at home in Chicago. Ever the devoted father, Muddy bought his son a drum set every Christmas, which Mud learned to play at age seven. Later, he switched to bass guitar while delving into songwriting.

Mud entertained the idea of becoming a professional musician after Muddy’s death in 1983. Blues fans were introduced to Mud at a tribute concert to his father in 2007, but his performance at the Chicago Blues Festival that same year brought him instant recognition.

Southside Chicago Native Rick King has played drum set for KoKo Taylor, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, B.B. King and many more touring globally. 

A founding member of the funk-soul-jam band Lubriphonic, he played and produced five records with the band. 

These days Rick steps out from behind the drum set to front his own band on Vocals and Percussion.

Melody Angel (her real name) is the complete package: gifted guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, vocalist, arranger, and producer. Along the way Angel found time to launch a successful theater and film acting career and received international acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The Chicago Reader newspaper called her “The Future of the Blues.” The Southside Chicago artist is indeed navigating a forward-looking musical path while integrating the legacy of classic blues.

Her music encompasses many 20th century American genres, including Rhythm & Blues, Rock, Folk, and Funk, all layered on a strong bed of Chicago blues. 

Angel’s music is her own. She imbibes the blues but through the prism of her own creative forces. She gets that trait honestly as a relative of Chicago blues icon, Otis Rush. Rush, along with Magic Sam and Jimmy Dawkins, helped create the fabled “West Side Sound” in the later 1950s -- a sound that heralded a new and innovative blues that embraced R&B and jazz and often incorporated horns.

As a young boy, Corey heard the powerful, soulful sounds of the Blues on late night radio programs and recalls being captivated by the music. He received his first guitar at the age of 6 and began to imitate the music of artists such as Gatemouth Brown, Albert Collins and Albert King. Corey immediately felt a strong connection to Soul music. “I just loved the way Soul music made me feel from my head to my toes. I remember humming along to songs from Wilson Pickett, Curtis Mayfield & Sam Cooke.” This marked a lasting impression on his musical style and is clearly visible today in his soulful vocals and fiery guitar solos.

Corey found his musical calling while hanging out with his harp playing uncle. “My Uncle snuck me into clubs where I saw some of the greatest Blues cats of all-time, Albert King, Albert Collins and Junior Wells. This is where it became clear to me; I wanted to be a Blues Man." He spent 12 years honing his skills as a sideman for Carl Weathersby, a mentor beyond the music: " Pop has really showed me the real me and have helped me in a lot of ways. Showed me what to do what not to do. I wouldn't know anything if it was not for Carl and my brothers-in-arms." Playing with Weathersby blessed Corey with opportunities to share the stage with such musical greats as The Kinsey Report, Robert Blaine, Chico Banks, The Steepwater Band, Jimmy Johnson, Robert Randolph, Derek Trucks And John Mayer, Gerry Hundt, Nick Moss, Lurrie Bell, Carlos Johnson, Bill Dickens, and Buddy Guy.

Nicholas Tremulis is a classic Chicago product, born to a jazz piano-playing father and a blues-singing mother, dubbed “the music mayor of Chicago” by radio veteran radio  program director Norm Winer (93XRT). A household always full of visiting musicians inspired Tremulis to pick up a guitar as a teenager, his music school was an apprenticeship playing clubs that often found him tagging along with his father, or his cousin who played with Curtis Mayfield. After logging time in a few rite of passage local bands, he formed the 13-piece Nicholas Tremulis Band to play his personalized kinetic combination of rock, R&B, free jazz and soul. He quickly became a top band in Chicago, toured extensively; Chris Blackwell took notice and in the mid 80s signed him to Island Records, joining label mates U2, Melissa Etheridge and more.

Midwest indie artist Allison Mahal has been writing songs for as long as she can remember. Deeply inspired by place and time, her debut album, Not Over This Yet, is a snapshot of the 7 years she spent cutting her teeth in Nashville as a twentysomething. Her music has garnered attention from local and national press alike, including NPR, Under The Radar, American Songwriter, Milwaukee Magazine, Milwaukee Record, and Consequence of Sound, who highlighted her single “Autopilot,” noting, “it feels as though she’s stepped into some of her own power.” Last year, she took on the Midwest with performances at Summer Soulstice Music Fest, Marquette Waterfront Fest, Gibson Music Hall, opening up for Ira Wolf at Cactus Club, and a two night run opening up for The Jayhawks at the Barrymore Theater and Poplar Hall for Flannel Fest. Her sophomore album, Allie, is due October 10th with Tone Tree Music, and is an ode to her younger self.

Birds of a Feather is a new American Indie Family supergroup consisting of two kids music luminaries - Brooklyn’s, longtime children’s music pioneer, Suzi Shelton  and Filipina-American Little Miss Ann of Chicago. Individually, Suzi and Ann have each maintained a strong presence within the national kids music community performing with their own bands across the country and producing many award-winning albums on their own. For over a decade, these longtime friends have also been inspired to perform together regularly at esteemed venues including Wolftrap (DC area), the Kids stage at Lollapalooza (Chicago), the Overture Center (Madison), Jewish Museum (NYC), and The Cabot (Beverly, MA) to name a few. Over the years, Suzi and Ann have recorded many singles together including “Spread More Love” and “Welcome Spring” which have been featured on national family radio stations such as Sirius XM Kids Place Live. In 2023, the duo decided to take it one step further and began collaborating by weekly zoom songwriting sessions to create their debut full length self-titled kids music album “Birds of a Feather”  produced by GRAMMY award winning Dean Jones highlighting their distinctive musical styles, unique vocals, infectious, joyful energy and rich harmonies to be released June, 2024. The album features a plethora  of diverse talented special guests from around the globe including Mista Cookie Jar, Ronnie Boy Kids, Uncle Devin, Mil's Trills, Joanie Leeds, Aaron Nigel Smith, Red Yarn, Katie Mullins, Michael Napolitano, 123 Andres and Claudia Robin Gunn.

Led by critically acclaimed drummer Brad Elvis (Elvis Brothers, The Romantics, Screams, Big Hello) and vocalist/guitarist/saxophonist Chloe F. Orwell (Big Hello), Chicago's The Handcuffs explore broad sonic territory, weaving together elements of glam, indie, art and blues rock. Inhabiting some of the same rock & roll domain as T-Rex, Mott The Hoople, early Bowie, Roxy Music, Queens of the Stone Age, P.J. Harvey, Led Zeppelin, and Patti Smith - all filtered through a modern lens - The Handcuffs deliver bold, sexy songs with memorable melodies and unexpected twists. Known as much for their dynamic live shows as for being prolific writers and producers, their fourth studio album, "Burn The Rails" will be released on vinyl LP on Pravda Records in 2024, and they are currently working on album number five. Completing The Handcuffs lineup are bassist Emily Togni, lead guitarist Charlie Short, and keyboardist Carolyn Engelmann, all celebrated musicians who have made their marks in a variety of genres and musical groups. Guest keyboardist Morgan Fisher (Mott The Hoople) demonstrates his synthesizer and piano prowess on a couple of tracks on the new LP.

Songwriter, singer and guitarist Alex McMurray has been writing and performing music professionally in New Orleans since 1989. Past and current bands include Tin Men, The Valparaiso Men's Chorus, The Write Brothers, Royal Fingerbowl, 007, Debbie Davis and the Mesmerizers and Happy Talk Band. He has worked as a sideman with Susan Cowsill, Paul Sanchez, Spencer Bohren, Greg Schatz, "Papa" John Gros, Lynn Drury and many others. In 2002 he spent six months performing sea shanties as "Cap'n Sandy" at Tokyo DisneySea. Awards include the 2020 Offbeat Magazine Best Country/Folk/Singer-Songwriter Artist and Album awards for his 2020 release "Lucky One", a 2014 Big Easy award for best Roots Rock artist and 2010 Big Easy award for Album of the Year. He has been performing as a leader and sideman at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival since 1993. He played himself on the HBO series “Treme” for several episodes. In 2020 he released two albums of original songs, Lucky One and Road Songs. During the Covid-19 pandemic he hosted the weekly “Fireside Chat” webcast every Tuesday night for over 100 straight weeks under his nom de covid“Mister Tuesday Night”. In 2022 he released his sixth solo album of original material The Recent Future.

Sonny Landreth and Cindy Cashdollar are making some rare duo appearances in 2024. The Louisiana slide guitar wizards trademark bottle neck chops and Cashdollars dobro and steel string talents culminate in world renowned showcases of guitar virtuosity.

Revered for his unique slide guitar technique, Sonny Landreth has collaborated with many legendary performers including John Hiatt, Jimmy Buffett, Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton. Summer of 2013, Sonny was part of the Peter Frampton led Guitar Circus tour, often closing the night playing with Frampton on an extended While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Cindy Cashdollars expertise is in great demand on both steel guitar and dobro. She has worked with many leading artists in various genres including Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Rod Stewart and Ryan Adams. With the iconic western swing group Asleep At The Wheel, she garnered 5 Grammy awards and was the first woman to be inducted into the Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 2011.

Performing a mix of original songs with contemporary and traditional blues and roots music, the show is electric, virtuosic, and tastefully delivered by these two great instrumental masters.

Steeped in the Soul Jazz and Funk traditions of Grant Green, Jimmy Smith, Earl Van Dyke, and Booker T & The MG’s; The Heavy Sounds testament to instrumental soul music from the 60’s and early 70’s has quite literally created a band that can say everything while saying nothing.

The Heavy Sounds are Ryan Juravic (drums), John W Lauler (bass), John Wills (Guitar), Alexander Kerwin (Alto Sax) and Pete Benson (Organ). What’s amazing about these cats is that their level of expertise in the instrumental setting is equaled and heightened by their work backing up legendary soul shouters from all over Chicago. This band has had the honor of backing up singers like Otis Clay, Syl Johnson, Renaldo Domino, Gina Bloom, Michael Avery, JC Brooks and others. Their extensive work as session musicians and backing bands has morphed this soul outfit into Chicago’s modern equivalent to the Funk Brothers.

Sinatra Forever: A Salute to Frank Sinatra is a concert that pays homage to the greatest singer of all time. This is not an impersonation show but an interpretation performed by Rick Michel.

“He is the closest thing to Frank Sinatra we have ever heard.”

Since he was a teenager, Rick has been singing Sinatra's music and has performed with big bands since the early 1980's. "I think Frank Sinatra was the most articulate of all the pop and standard singers," said Michel. "He made songs his own by uniquely phrasing the words to wrap around the melody line like no one else before him or since."

The audiences recognize many of the song selections in the show. "I have tried to touch upon all aspects of Mr. Sinatra's life by choosing the variety of music that best represents his career" Michel explains. "There is so much material to choose from that I can continue adding new Sinatra songs to my show for years to come and never get to them all."

Rick Michel's latest project is to sing songs that Frank Sinatra might have sung or that would have been interesting to hear him sing, such as: Roger Miller's "King of the Road", Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" and "The Curtain Falls" by Bobby Darin, just to name a few.

Years before Americana music earned its own category at the Grammy Awards, Steve Forbert helped pioneer the genre's mix of folk, roots-rock, and richly delivered storytelling. He's been a torchbearer of that sound for more than four decades since, navigating the twists and turns of an acclaimed career that's taken him from gold records to Grammy nominations, from New York City's CBGB to Nashville's Bluebird Cafe, from his 1978 debut album to 2022's vital and versatile Moving Through America. 

Backed by the same band that appeared on his collection of cover songs, Early Morning Rain, in 2020, Steve Forbert fills Moving Through America with songs that are every bit as spirited as "Romeo's Tune," his Top 20 hit from 1979's gold-certified Jackrabbit Slim.
