FITZGERALDS NIGHTCLUB PRESENTS:
NEAL ALGER'S BLUE NOTE QUARTET Performs the Best Of the 1950's and 1960's
$15 General Admission SEAT / Reserved Tables Available
The Blue Note Quartet: Neal Alger, Scott Burns, John Tate, George Fludas
Since 2009, Neal Alger's Blue Note Quartet has dedicated itself to performing classics and obscurities from the legendary Blue Note jazz record label founded in 1939. Over the years, Neal's quartet has performed at the Jazz Showcase, Andy's Jazz Club, Winter's Jazz Club, and the Chicago Jazz Festival. The unbelievable volume of music released on Blue Note Records allows the current ensemble to select from a treasure trove of great straight-ahead jazz by composers such as Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Bobby Hutcherson, and many others. In celebration of the ensemble's first appearance at the venerable Fitzgerald's Nightclub, Alger has selected material from the "golden era" of Blue Note, the 1950's and 1960's.
NEAL ALGER Lauded as "one of the most sensitive and creative guitarists in a city filled with them" (Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune) and described as “monstrously talented” by Christopher Loudon (Jazz Times magazine), Neal Alger's musical versatility has allowed him to perform with Howard Levy (jazz), New Black Renaissance (R&B/Soul), Bossa Tres (Brazilian samba), and Blend Acoustic (classic rock/pop). Neal has toured Europe, Canada, Brazil, South Korea, Russia, and the U.S. with vocalist/pianist Patricia Barber and he is featured on her Blue Note Records releases Verse, Live: A Fortnight in France, Mythologies, The Cole Porter Mix, and Higher. Neal's first instrumental album in over 20 years featuring solely original compositions, Old Souls, was released in March 2024 on Calligram Records. Neal's admiration and love for the iconic jazz record label Blue Note Records inspired him to form the Blue Note Quartet back in 2009.
