Ever since returning home to Chicago from New Orleans in 2005, drummer Quin Kirchner longed for the classic funk that was ubiquitous on the NOLA circuit but nowhere to be found in Chicago. In 2015, he decided to assemble his own group to play his favorite funk standards and gathered a few of his best friends and collaborators to form Funky Miracle. Featuring Rob Clearfield on Organ, Dave Miller on Guitar and Matt Ulery on Electric Bass, Funky Miracle plays classics by The Meters, Sam & The Soul Machine, The Gaturs, Eddie Bo, Smokey Johnson, Grant Green, Jimmy Smith, and more. Their regular performances at The California Clipper brought sweaty dance parties and authentic funk to the local scene, gaining a dedicated following until Clearfield relocated to France. Now the band reunites on the special occasion that he visits home, and this is only the second show they’ve played since 2019.
