Louis Armstrong came north to Chicago from New Orleans in 1922. By the next year, he was making his first recordings with King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band. He was such a sensation that Fletcher Henderson lured him to New York in 1924. But by 1925, Louis had enough of the big city and came back to Chicago. On November 12th, 1925, Louis Armstrong recorded for the first time under his own name. These Hot Fives, and later Hot Sevens, helped propel Armstrong to international stardom, and inspired countless young musicians. This was Hot Music at its finest. The Chicago Cellar Boys are one of the few groups that specializes in interpreting this futuristic and electric era. The band doesn't just read the notes played nearly 100 years ago; they breathe new life into an often-overlooked part of American Music.
