FITZGERALDS SIDEBAR PRESENTS: SONGWRITER CIRCLE

RYAN JOSEPH ANDERSON W/ ANNA VOGELZANG and PAT MCKILLEN

Ryan Joseph Anderson’s solo career began in April 2014 with the release of his debut album, The Weaver’s Broom. The album, engineered and co-produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hooray for the Riff Raff), was hailed as one of the best Americana records of the year. Songs from The Weaver’s Broom made "best of" lists for Daytrotter and Songpickr and were featured in Paste and Magnet. American Songwriter said that Anderson "evokes the open-tunings of Nick Drake as well as the barroom howl of Tom Waits." Before going solo, Anderson was known as the bandleader and songwriter for the beloved Chicago roots outfit Go Long Mule, as a guitar slinger for garage-rockers Rambos, and as a producer, sessions man and sideman for numerous artists. His influences range from country blues to psychedelic rock and are on prominent display in his masterful guitar playing and songwriting. Anderson’s sophomore release, City of Vines was released in the summer of 2017 to critical acclaim. He toured extensively in support of the record and has shared the stage with such acts as Robert Earl Keene, Honey Honey, Robbie Fulks, Charlie Parr, and Amy Helm.

Anna Vogelzang: The feeling of embodying a transient physical state while living in new surroundings was the origin of Anna Vogelzang’s latest album, Beacon, co-produced with Tyler Chester. The group of songs was born from both places of unknowing, and ultimately proved itself inspired by the West Coast ether. Beacon is Vogelzang’s seventh studio album and celebrates the momentum of surrendering to the unknown, a feeling she knows intimately from her time in L.A . Her music transcends place by acknowledging the true illuminating source of soul and sound: people and self.

Patrick McKillen: I'm 34 years old and have been a professional musician for the last decade. everything you see and hear is independently produced. i've written 100+ songs and put out 8 independent releases. i can only guess how many shows i've played ... from empty bar gigs to sold out clubs. i play covers at weddings and parties to make a living & to support my original music dreams. if i have to sing Sweet Caroline again i just might snap. i've set up my PA system no less than 1000 times & i seriously regret buying 70lb speakers. i've built this website & re-written this bio about 20 times. i used to try to make myself sound important but that's not my style anymore. "america's got talent" was 9 years ago, i think it's time we all forgive Howie Mandel and move on with our lives.
