Eric Hines & Pan Dulce is an instrumental Caribbean jazz ensemble based in Chicago, IL. The group features Dr. Eric Hines (bandleader/tenor steel pan/percussion), Joaquin Garcia (keys), Freddy Quintero (bass), Tommaso Moretti (drums), and Jean-Christophe Leroy (percussion).

The name Pan Dulce (Spanish for sweet bread) is a play on words, referring to the traditional Latin American pastries and the sweet sound of the steel pan. This dynamic and vibrant ensemble gives a unique jazz treatment to traditional soca and calypso melodies from Trinidad and Tobago. The musicians of Pan Dulce lead their audiences on a tour through popular Latin and folkloric grooves from Cuba, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, New Orleans, West Africa, and more. Live performances are high energy, nuanced, and centered on improvisation.

Pan Dulce has collaborated with many of Chicago’s finest jazz and Latin performers
including Dana Hall, Pat Mallinger, Ernie Adams, Rubén Alvarez, Jeremiah Hunt, Rajiv Haleem, Roy McGrath, Joe Rendon, Juan Pastor, Ricardo Flores, Liza Micelli, Bobby Delgado, Javier Saume, Rich Stitzel, Erik Skov, Adrian Ruiz, and Alo Cortez.
