FitzGerald's welcomes back Tom Russell for a two-set show for a celebration of his new album "Folk Hotel." Doors open at 7 pm. (THIS IS A SITDOWN SHOW. EVERYONE WITH A TICKET WILL GET A SEAT.)
Tom Russell's new recording of original songs, "Folk Hotel," will be released worldwide August 25. A year-long world tour in support of the album commences in Boston, rolls across the USA with fifty dates, then goes to Ireland and the UK in November and December. Scheduled dates are up on: www.tomrussell.com
The new record features 13 new Tom Russell originals and a bonus track of Bob Dylan's "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues," a duet with Joe Ely, featuring Joel Guzman on Tex-Mex accordion. Augie Meyers and Eliza Gilkyson also make guest appearances on the album. The album was recorded at Congress House studio in Austin, Texas.
There are songs and stories about: the Chelsea Hotel in New York City, Tom’s journey from El Paso to Santa Fe, Ian Tyson refusing to "leave his old horses," a song for Dylan Thomas that melts into a Joycean landscape about a day in the life of Belfast, Ireland, Tom’s meeting J.F.K., and even a song using only 16th century slang!
Tom considers it his best record to date both from a songwriting and performance standpoint.
Meanwhile!True North Records just released Tom's tribute to Ian and Sylvia - "Play One More - The Songs of Ian and Sylvia," including two Tom Russell co-writes, one each with both Ian and Sylvia, plus forgotten classics of folk music and two rare Ian and Sylvia demos.
