Soup & Bread debut at FitzGerald's!
Soup and bread began as a regular gathering of college friends, a time to come together over good food and good conversation. As they grew older and settled in Chicago, the group decided to use this model to try and help the many needy families throughout the city, and to invite new folks to carry on the tradition of sharing good food and stories with good friends.
After raising over $10,000 for Chicago-area food banks and other charities in pay-what-you-can donations, branching out with a cookbook and hosting a cross-country tour, Soup & Bread is still headquartered at the Hideout every Wednesday at 5:30pm. Carrying on that tradition, FitzGerald's is pleased to host this monthly soup dinner and hunger-relief fundraiser on the last Thursday of every month. The January Soup & Bread event benefits CBS Anti-Hungar Foundation, a 25-year-old organization that serves more than 200 families every week in the Berwyn/Cicero/Stickney area.
Starting at 6pm in the SideBar (come early, it goes quick) we will be serving a variety of soups created by local chefs and residents. Soup & Bread contributors this month at FitzGerald's include Autre Monde, Capri Ristorante, Big Guys Sausage Stand, plus a few industrious local soup wizards. And of course our bar will be open and ready to serve a nice cold (or hot) beverage to enjoy with your soup and bread. If you'd like to donate a little treat of your own (baked goods only, please) we welcome your participation!
