SideBar Sessions with Jarod Bufe Quartet

Wed, Mar 18 2020, 8:00pm - $10 suggested donation

Doors open at 7 pm.

The Jarod Bufe Quartet is a project dedicated to exploring free improvisation in the context of tonal composition. The group’s repertoire, written by Bufe, consists of pieces, which range in style from traditional cyclical song forms, to open ended structures intended to serve as a point of departure for harmolodic improvisation. The personnel and instrumentation of the quartet occasionally varies, but consistently features some of the most unique musicians from Chicago’s diverse jazz and improvised music community. As the primary outlet for Bufe’s compositional voice and continually evolving approach to improvisation, the Jarod Bufe Quartet has already developed a distinctive sound since its inception in 2012, with notable performances at such venues as Fitzgerald’s SideBar, the Ratchet Series at the Skylark, and Strobe Studios.
