Mike Maimone (SideBar)
As a performer, Mike Maimone leaves it all on the stage. Sean Moeller of Daytrotter said he "goes from a tame resting heart rate, living beneath a harvest moon, to pure adrenaline -- instantaneously. He goes from zero to a hundred quicker than most."
Vern Hester of the LGBT newspaper Windy City Times said, "The man has the keyboard style of Fats Waller and Jerry Lee Lewis combined, and a vocal style that clearly recalls Tom Waits and Warren Zevon. With him bouncing up and down, smacking the keys and growling like a jolly puppet who just lost its strings, it was pretty hard not to get engulfed in all the fun he was having."
Maimone has averaged over 100 tour dates each year since 2007 as a solo artist, with his band Mutts, and as keyboardist for acts including Company of Thieves, Jon Walker of Panic at the Disco, Bailiff, and Hemmingbirds. Recent highlights include Mutts performances at Riot Fest, selling out Schubas, headlining the Metro, playing the first three Miles of Music, SXSW twice and Milwaukee's Summerfest on the US Cellular Stage twice.
Mike Maimone hosts a weekly series called Collab/Corrupt at the High Hat Club in Chicago every Friday when not on tour. In this series he invites other singer/songwriters to share their songs (video archive available at mikemaimone.com/collabcorrupt).
As keyboardist of Company of Thieves from 2009 - 2011, Maimone performed at Lollapalooza, Forecastle Fest, on Last Call with Carson Daly and recorded with producer Rob Scnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith, The Vines, The Whig, Dr. Dog).
Maimone released his solo debut LP Open Mic Nights, Empty Bottle Mornings in 2008. Going on to form Mutts with bassist Bob Buckstaff in 2009, Maimone has subsequently written and released 4 albums and 3 EPs. The most recent LP from Mutts, Fuel Yer Delusion vol. 4, is their fourth consecutive album to chart on the CMJ Top 200. Their 2013 album Object Permanence was named one of the year's best by WXRT Chicago's Finest Rock. A new Mutts EP is in the works for Fall 2016, as well as Mike's follow-up solo album.
