BECKY LEVI & MIKE VANIER(8 pm): Becky and Mike share a love for country music and the transformative power of live shows. These two Chicago natives fused their love of Roots Music, Jazz and Americana to create an Indie Americana sound featuring powerful vocal harmonies and unforgettable guitar riffs. A singer songwriter, Becky’s quest to discover the origin of Old-time country took her from the hills of Southwest Virginia to the deserts of West Africa. After studying jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music, Mike found himself drawn to the sounds of acoustic music. And after touring nationally with a Broadway production, he formed the Leadfoot Bluegrass band that has shared the stage with Yonder Mountain String Band, Sara Watkins, Sam Bush & Jerry Douglass, Railroad Earth and at the John Hartford Memorial folk festival. Most recently they shared the stage with Jim Lauderdale at Chicago’s The Hideout Inn for their festival ‘A Day in the Country’. They are excited to release their new EP recorded by producer and engineer Jim Becker titled, “Whole Lotta Trouble."

BIG SADIE (9 pm): Big Sadie is a Chicago-based acoustic band fronted by Elise Bergman (upright bass, vocals) and Collin Moore (guitar, vocals). Defined by rich and intricate harmonies, rustic yet sophisticated instrumental arrangements, and compelling songwriting, Big Sadie takes a modern yet timeless approach to American roots music.

Bergman and Moore both grew up surrounded by music. With roots spanning from the Midwest to the heart of Appalachia, their heritage and the rich musical histories of these places inspires their sound. Chicago native Bergman brings a solid blues and folk influence to the group while Moore is firmly planted in the bluegrass and old-time he began playing as a boy in the hills of East Tennessee. Bergman and Moore have been playing music together for over a decade and through the years, the duo has amassed an extensive repertoire of bluegrass, old-time, early country, and blues. With the May 2017 release of their debut album ‘Keep Me Waiting,’ they introduced their first collection of original compositions.

Andy Malloy, a native Oklahoman and mainstay of Chicago’s vibrant bluegrass scene, and Matt Brown, a Pennsylvania-raised multi-instrumentalist and instructor at the Old Town School of Folk Music, joined Big Sadie in mid-2016 after a year of fruitful collaborations with Bergman and Moore. Malloy’s energetic and inventive banjo playing and Brown’s masterful fiddling add new textures, enhance the dynamism of live performances, and affirm Big Sadie as a fresh voice in bluegrass and Americana music.
